John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (NIV). Here, we will realize
that someone who is WITH God is God himself. It was through the WORD that all
creations were created (v4).
Now in John 1: 14 it said that “the Word
became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory
of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
And we understood that God who dwell among us is JESUS. The Holy Spirit is the
Spirit of God that lives within the children of God (Genesis 1:1-2).
Jesus, the Holy Spirit
and God are God himself.
God is only one.
The three persona of God are the three aspects of Himself that He showed us.
Think about
water. It is fixed in place in the ocean (God is in His throne in heaven), but
at the same time, it is in the air as water vapor (like the Holy Spirit is
everywhere even within us). When freezed however, it becomes a solid ice (Jesus
is God who come in the flesh). We have different names on the different persona
showed by God.
Just as how the
ocean, the water vapor, the clouds and ice are all water, God is also one and He appeared as Jesus, as
the Holy Spirit even as fire in the burning bush. We shall never make any image
of Him in the likeness of anything, rather just look up to heaven where he
dwells.
The biggest
question there is, “Why then did Jesus prayed to God calling Him Father?”; the
reason is that Jesus wanted to teach us to pray to the Father, seek the Father,
and to show us how to obey the Father (Matthew
5, 6, 7). He wanted to be an example of the right kind of life of a child
of God (Hebrews 6:19-20)
In fact, it is
not impossible to be different persona in one setting. For example a man can be
a father of his child and a son to his own father. If he has siblings, he is
also a brother, and a friend to his friends. In the same way, GOD is the Father
of all his creations. He became the Son of Man because when He came on earth,
He was conceived by Mary. He became the Son of God because it was through the
Holy Spirit that this virgin conceived (Matthew
1: 18-25). He is our brother, because God promised to make us His children
through Jesus (1 John 3: 1- 10). And
He is our friend if we love Him (John
15:13)
Why is it
necessary for Jesus to be tempted? So that we may know how to resist the
devil’s temptation in this body. (Matthew
4: 1-10)
Also, Jesus
needs to come as a human being because He must shed blood on the cross to save
us from our sins. (Romans 8:3)
Meanwhile, the
Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God that was sent after Jesus ascended to heaven,
in order to help us do the will of God. (Hebrews
8: 7-13)
So, God is just
ONE but for the sake of our salvation, He must come in the flesh to show us the
way (John 14:6) and be the means
(crucified) to which our sins will be forgiven; and he must also come as the
Holy Spirit to live within us and guide our minds and hearts (Romans 12:1-2). In Revelations 1:17 it was also said that Jesus is the “Alpha and
Omega” and we know that God is the beginning and the end of everything.
What will happen to us if we do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as the Messiah?
1 John 4: 1-3 (NIV)
1Dear friends, do not believe
every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because
many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 This is how you can
recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ
has come in the flesh is from God, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge
Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have
heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
